ENLIGHTENED LEADERSHIP SERIES
LIVING THE WISDOM OF THE BHAGAVAD GITA
|
|
We continue with this popular series of workshops that
draws upon the Indian Spiritual Tradition, especially
the Bhagavad-Gita, Yoga Sutras and selected Spiritual
processes, as an essential primer for Enlightened Leadership:
at home and at work. Interactive lectures on the Gita
will be combined with selected processes from the tradition
of Yoga that enable us to live this philosophy in our
daily lives.
Sri
Shankar Narayan will be coming from Delhi and delivering
the lectures on the Gita. He has spent over 25 years
studying/living the principles of the Gita and for the
past 4 years has been delivering a weekly exposition
of the Bhagavad-Gita to numerous committed aspirants
at a temple in New Delhi.
Life
is a journey of self-discovery. The more we discover
of ourselves and our true potential, the better our
understanding and quality of life we live. The philosophy
of the universally applicable Bhagavad-Gita, when correctly
understood and assiduously practiced, enables us to
overcome any and all conflicts of life. It contains
within it the highest of truths; that Self-realization;
is the goal of life. It also provides the means (Yoga)
to achieve this goal. As we dive deeper into this beautiful
scripture, it provides us with the necessary qualities
of excellence, which when manifested, allow us to discover
the leadership qualities within us.
The
modern concept of leadership focuses on our ability
to deliver results having been allocated resources of
capital, manpower, time etc. These resources must be
juggled and motivated to meet our given objective. Having
performed our stated best, we spend an enormous amount
of time worrying about the expected result; even trying
to manipulate or manoeuvre expected results in our favour.
This kind of success is not sustainable. “No man
can long occupy satisfactorily a position for which
he is not fit”. Swami Vivekananda.
In
the Indian tradition, more attention is placed on the
means than on the ends. Take care of the means and the
end will take care of itself. At the same time, leadership
follows excellence – functional, emotional and
spiritual. Before expecting excellence from others,
we must ensure we have manifested excellence ourselves.
So leadership is first and foremost about managing our
self. Apart from technical and functional dexterity,
we need to ensure that we display self discipline, self
control, humility, patience, forbearance, generosity
etc. These qualities are easier spoken of than practiced.

The role of an Enlightened Leadership places upon us
numerous duties we need to fulfil for the benefit of
those we lead. Above all, we must ensure our own personal
material needs are managed and satisfied with the minimum
of efforts, so we can direct our energies and time towards
serving others. The world’s need or expectation
of us will never subside – we must learn to manage
these. At the same time, we must reduce our expectation
from the world. This can only happen if we can access
a source of energy deep within the depths of our soul.
This is the essence of this series of workshops –
how do we access our Inner Self, that place of pure
consciousness that will always guide us to make right
choices and also help us deal with pain, disappointment,
loss, or conflict, without making us bitter and fearful.
During
the workshop, you will also participate in twice daily
Yoga Asanas and Pranayama classes that help restore
and heal the physical body, and bring about strength,
flexibility and balance in life. Yoga processes are
a holistic exercise and positively affect the physical,
physiological, emotional, intellectual and spiritual
layers of our personality. At Shreyas, we try to follow
the principles of Yoga as our formal training. During
your stay with us, you can see for yourselves how the
philosophy of the Bhagavad-Gita becomes an inspiration
to enjoy serving the needs of others. |
