1. What is our aim?

Demystify the wisdom contained within the Indian scriptures* , and present it in practical and contemporary terms to our clientele.

* Indian scriptures
Vedas - These are spiritual teachings considered to be unwritten and have existed since time immemorial. The teachings have been passed from Guru to Disciple in an unbroken tradition.

There are 4 principal Vedas; Yajur, Sama, Athar and Rg. Each Veda is divided into two sections - the ritualistic portion describing the prayers, detailed rituals etc and the philosophical portion dealing with the ultimate purpose of humanity - seeking knowledge of the Self.

Upanishads - These are a collection of the knowledge portion of all the Vedas - although there are considered to be over 200 Upanishads in existence, 11 are considered to be of prime importance, primarily as they had commentaries written by Shri Adi Sankara in the 7th century, one of the greatest saint philosophers in India. The Bhagavad Gita, whilst not part of the Vedas, is considered to be one of the most important treatises of Vedic philosophy and along with selected Upanishads and Yoga Sutra's of Patanjali represent the reference scriptures in our courses.

2. How do we deliver our message?

We combine lectures based on the Indian Scriptures with processes such as Yoga, interactive discussions, silent nature walks and games.

All of the above is placed into perspective with prevailing thought in Modern Science, Management and Leadership Development.

3. Who are these workshops aimed at?

Individuals from all walks of life provided they have a keen intellect, an inquiring mind, and are searching for balance in their lives.

Our clients represent a broad cross section of society including corporate & media executives, professional athletes, self employed entrepreneurs, gym instructors, homemakers and students. Including Indians, our clients represent countries Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Japan, Singapore, UK, Italy, Lebanon, USA and the West Indies.

4. What attracts them to Inner Challenges?

We believe the principal attracting factor is our instructors’ ability to explain in practical terms some of the more complex principles of the scriptures and put them into perspective with the participant’s own belief systems and experience.

Our instructors have numerous years experience working in the domestic and international business arena and have also studied the scriptures under the guidance of their guru’s. This allows them to communicate the essence of the scriptures in contemporary and practical terms so that people can apply the wisdom in their daily lives.

5. Is this a religious program?

The fundamental tenet of Indian spirituality is that one Cosmic Consciousness alone exists and that all phenomena are a manifestation of that one power. Normally referred to as God, this power is defined as Absolute Existence, Knowledge and Wisdom.

6. Where does Yoga fit in?

Yoga covers a gamut of spiritual processes that transform an individuals’ personality and life to a higher plane.

7. Why should I be interested??? I have no difficulties in life that I cannot overcome and not am particularly interested in searching for truth at this stage?

You represent the fortunate few and need not pursue this unless you have an intellectual desire to know more about this philosophy.

However, when life presents you with challenges that will test your patience and resolve, a balanced mind is essential in dealing with matters. Yoga will help you develop a greater tolerance level to pain as and when it makes an appearance in your life.

Yoga processes will of course help in maintaining a healthy body and peaceful mind such that you can get more out of your life.

8. At this stage of my life, I can’t focus on this, as I have to earn and build a successful career. When I am retired, I will look for some answers. I fear that any philosophy that detracts from this immediate goal will be detrimental to me.

Nothing in these processes or principle will take you away from your responsibility towards yourself, your family and society around you. In fact, you are encouraged to succeed materially provided you do not do so at the expense of someone else. The goal is to be able to succeed not only in the material aspects of your life but to grow spiritually as well.

9. Can I use this to further my career?

By following the principles of right living and with regular practice (over 6-9 months) of the processes introduced, the following benefits will be experienced

• Enhanced sense of balance and well being
• Higher energy levels
• Improved ability to cope with stress
• Greater concentration and focus
• Improved memory

These in turn will help individuals both in their professional as well as personal capacity.

10. I follow another religion but would like to continue with the physical postures and the breathing exercises. Will this be of any use to me??

Yoga processes transcend all ritualistic religion and can be practiced by anyone who has faith in God. We do not recommend any religion or subscribe to dogmas or beliefs that alienate one thought process from another.

Different religions are not contradictory or antagonistic. They are but the same religion expressing itself in different countries in different ways. Swami Vivekananda.

11.

How do you explain the conflict between the healthy competition and maintaining a calm and peaceful mind?

When you are committed to excellence, competition is not an issue - you have to meet your own standards. But to combat laziness/indolence, it's ok to instill a competitive spirit amongst your team. This will not detract from your ability to have a calm mind.

Healthy competition is never a problem - it is when you get personal about competition or your competitor where harmony is compromised. You may have noticed that competitive anxiety sometimes backfires and can become a hindrance to optimal performance.

12.

If selfishness detracts from effectiveness, how should we live our lives?

Once you recognize the interdependence of everything around you, your selfish habits will slowly transform into selflessness.

Initially you are a prisoner of habitual patterns/current perception of the world you occupy. But over a period of time, this mindset will change.

13.

Where do you draw the line between working for yourself and working for others?

You don't draw a line - the idea is to mature from thinking of little "me" to the "big" me.

Initially you work for your own economic / personal needs/desires. As you mature, you include more and more people under your umbrella - e.g. from me/mine you add family then friends + workers/employees + customers + country etc.

This is an additive process i.e. as you spiritually mature; you are able to include the welfare of more people.

Ultimately, you give what you feel you have in abundance of - this could be as simple as a smile, encouragement, empathy - it does not always have to be a material object.
